Polar Bear Awareness Weekend 2026

Ivohiboro : The Lost Forest Screening at The Little Theater

This documentary is a reminder that there is still so much to discover!

The film follows an expedition into Madagascar’s Ivohiboro Forest, a small, previously unexplored forest rich with biodiversity. Led by primatologist and professor Patricia Wright, recipient of our 2022 Conservation Warrior award, the team worked to document an ecosystem few had studied before. Seneca Park Zoo’s Brenna De Angelis and Tom Snyder were among the scientists contributing to this research and will be on the panel with Dr.Wright after the film!

Celebrate America Recycles Day with us! All day, we’re diving into fun, hands-on ways to reduce waste, recycle, and live more sustainably. It’s a perfect chance to learn new tips, meet people who care about the planet, and see how small actions add up to big impact for wildlife and their habitats.
Programming Schedule, November 15th

All Day – Community Stations and Activities
*Animal demos/enrichment are always subject to change/cancellation without notice due to the care and comfort of the animal. 
Community Stations to Investigate!
Explore a variety of interactive tables and displays along the Zoo’s Genesee Trail, where you can connect with organizations leading the way in recycling, plastic pollution reduction, composting, and more. Learn how you can take meaningful steps in your daily life to help protect the Earth—right here in your own community.
RIT – Recycling Art ActivityTurn trash into treasure! Join us for a hands-on activity focused on upcycling. We’re making trash plate art!
Impact Earth – Composting & Living Zero wasteImpact Earth will be here talking about how small changes can make a big impact! Learn the basics of composting and easy ways to live a zero waste lifestyle.
Goodwill of the Fingerlakes – Recycling TextilesGive old T-shirts a second life by transforming them into something new! This hands-on activity teaches kids and families how to creatively reuse textiles and reduce waste—turning what might be tossed out into something useful and imaginative.
Redwood Materials – Battery CollectionRedwood Materials will be here talking about the importance of battery recovery, reuse, and recycling. Learn how small actions can help create a more sustainable future!
 

Recycle Rally
Visit the Zoo and drop off your old batteries and clothes to be recycled or donated! Textiles and electronics are major contributors to waste and pollution when they end up in landfills. 
Goodwill of the Finger Lakes: Drop-off bins will be exclusively collecting textiles (cloth and clothing). These drop-off bins will be available all day in the parking lot on November 15th for guests.
Redwood Materials: Exclusively collecting batteries. Batteries can be dropped off at the Redwood Materials table setup inside the Zoo or in the parking lot at the Seneca Park Zoo table. 

Recycle Day Cleanup!
Meet the Seneca Park Zoo at Marilla’s Mindful Supplies for a community cleanup and learn about how LittaTraps are used to study plastic pollution in our storm drains. While you’re with us, be sure to check out Marilla’s to see all the amazing plastic alternative options for everyday household items.

Location: Creatures from the River’s EdgeThe City of Rochester is developing an in-depth feasibility study that examines the 8.5-mile northern portion of the GRT that extends from downtown Rochester to Lake Ontario, with the goal of creating a seamless trail on both sides of the river that is accessible to all ages and abilities.
